OpenAI introduces ChatGPT app for iOS.

May 18, 2023 – OpenAI today launched the ChatGPT app for iOS (iPhone) users. The ChatGPT app is free to use and will synch history across devices. It also integrates Whisper OpenAI’s speech recognition system enabling voice input. ChatGPT Plus subscribers get exclusive access to GPT-4’s capabilities with features such as faster response time.

  • Instant answers: Get precise information without sifting through ads or multiple results.
  • Tailored advice: Seek guidance on cooking, travel plans, or crafting thoughtful messages.
  • Creative inspiration: Generate gift ideas, outline presentations, or write the perfect poem.
  • Professional input: Boost productivity with idea feedback, note summarization, and technical topic assistance.
  • Learning opportunities: Explore new languages, modern history, and more at your own pace.

OpenAI has started the rollout in the US and will expand to additional countries in the coming weeks. As per the OpenAI blog, the Android app will be released soon.

Before the app launch, ChatGPT could be accessed through the Microsoft Bing app. The official ChatGPT app will likely move some users away from Microsoft and would discourage countless spam and fake apps that offer chatbot on mobile.

Microsoft made a multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAi earlier this year to accelerate AI breakthroughs to ensure the benefits are broadly shared with the world.

In February, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Plus, a premium membership for the app that grants priority access and uses the business’ most recent GPT-4 language model to produce responses. Each month, it costs $20.

In March OpenAI created GPT-4, the latest milestone in OpenAI’s effort in scaling up deep learning. GPT-4 is a sizable multimodal model that accepts image and text inputs and emits text outputs. While less effective than humans in many real-world situations, GPT-4 performs at a human level on a variety of academic and professional benchmarks. For instance, it successfully completes a mock bar exam with a score in the top 10% of test takers, as opposed to GPT-3.5, whose score was in the bottom 10%. Our best-ever results (albeit far from perfect) on factuality, steerability, and refusing to go outside of guardrails were achieved by OpenAI after 6 months of progressively aligning GPT-4 utilizing lessons from both ChatGPT and our adversarial testing program.
