Apple announces best apps & games of 2020.
On Dec 1, 2020 Apple announced the best apps & games of 2020 on its App Store. Apple recognized 15 apps and games for their positive cultural impact, helpfulness, and importance. The apps that that proved to be essential for making life easier, healthier, and more connected this year. Apple selected apps for their high quality, creative design, usability, and innovative technology.
Best Apps were chosen for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, Apple Watch, including best games on these devices and apple Arcade.
Phil Schiller, Apple fellow said “This year, more than ever before, some of our most creative and connected moments happened in apps. This was thanks to the amazing work of developers who introduced fresh, helpful app experiences throughout the year”
“Wakeout” developed by Andres Canella won the iPhone app of the year. The app focuses on at home/office and classroom gentle exercises for everyone. Games like “Genshin Impact,” “Legends of Runeterra,” “Disco Elysium,” “Dandara Trials of Fear,”and Apple Arcade’s “Sneaky Sasquatch” were chosen for best games. Video conferring & distance learning app “Zoom”, daily routine calendar app “Fantastical” app to help you focus, relax and sleep “Endel” by creating personalized sound environments were among the best apps of 2020. iPhone App of the Year:
Wakeout!, developed by Andres Canella: Wakeout is at home/office/classroom gentle exercise app.
iPad App of the Year:
Zoom: Video and audio conferencing app.
Mac App of the Year:
Fantastical, developed by Flexibits. Calendar App on Mac
Apple TV App of the Year:
Disney+: Entertainment streaming app.

Best Games of 2020
iPhone Game of the Year:
“Genshin Impact,” from miHoYo: Genshin Impact is a free-to-play action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo. The game features a fantasy open world environment and action based battle system using elemental magic, character switching and uses gacha game monetization for players to obtain new characters, weapons, and other resources.
iPad Game of the Year:
“Legends of Runeterra,” from Riot Games: Legends of Runeterra is a free-to-play digital collectible card game developed and published by Riot Games. It released on April 29, 2020 for Microsoft Windows, Android, and iOS.
Mac Game of the Year:
Disco Elysium, from ZA/UM: Disco Elysium is a role-playing video game developed and published by ZA/UM. The game takes place in a large city still recovering from a war decades prior to the game’s start, with players taking the role of an amnesic detective who has been charged with solving a murder mystery.
Apple TV Game of the Year
“Dandara Trials of Fear,” from Long Hat House: Dandara is a 2D platformer and Metroidvania game developed by Brazilian studio Long Hat House and published by Raw Fury.
Apple Arcade Game of the Year:
“Sneaky Sasquatch,” from RAC7:
Live the life of a Sasquatch and do regular, everyday Sasquatch stuff like, sneak around campsites, disguise yourself in human clothing, eat food from unguarded coolers and picnic baskets, play a quick 9 holes at the golf course.
To commemorate these 15 apps, Apple designers brought meticulous craftsmanship to create the first-ever physical App Store Best of 2020 award. Inspired by the signature blue App Store icon, each award reveals the App Store logo set into 100 percent recycled aluminium, with the name of the winner engraved on the other side.
