Google’s custom soc Tensor for Pixel 6 phones will be launched this fall. Tensor is Google’s first custom-built SoC, and it will power the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro later this fall. As per Google, Tensor was created to accommodate how people use their phones now and in the future. It’s not just about providing more computer capabilities as more and more features are powered by AI and machine learning; it’s about using that ML to unlock customized experiences for our Pixel consumers.
Google’s silicon design team aimed to make Pixel even more capable. With Tensor, for example, they considered every component of the chip and modified it to run Google’s computational photography models. This includes whole new features, as well as updates to current ones, for users.
Google released the first Pixel in 2016. Their goal was to create a phone that was more useful and intelligent. Google developed HDR+ and Night Sight, which used artificial intelligence (AI) to create stunning photographs with computational photography. They later used advanced speech recognition algorithms to create Recorder, a gadget that can record, transcribe, and search for audio samples.
Google in a blog post said, AI is the future of our innovation work, but the problem is we’ve run into computing limitations that prevented us from fully pursuing our mission. So we set about building a technology platform built for mobile that enabled us to bring our most innovative AI and machine learning (ML) to our Pixel users. We set out to make our own System on a Chip (SoC) to power Pixel 6. And now, years later, it’s almost here.
Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be launched this fall and Google will provide additional details like new features, technical specs, and pricing, etc. during the launch event. The phone will have a new design that unites the same stunning aesthetic across software and hardware. Everything about using the Pixel is better, from Android 12 to the new Tensor SoC. The phone’s rear camera setup will also be updated. The sensors and lenses are now too large to fit into the typical square, so the camera bar provides a new home for the entire system.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also include new materials and finishes, including a light polished metal frame on the Pro and a matte aluminum finish on the 6. And they’re both quitAnd they both feel great in your hand.
At Google I/O, Google unveiled Android 12 and the new Material You design language. We’ve combined color science with years of experience in interaction design and engineering to create Material You. Because everything operates seamlessly on the Tensor chip, these UI enhancements are based on the new animation and design foundation, making using your Pixel feel wonderfully natural, said the blog post.
Tensor enables us to make Google phones we’ve always envisioned — phones that keep getting better while tapping the most powerful parts of Google, all in a highly personalized experience. And with Tensor’s new security core and Titan M2, Pixel 6 will have the most layers of hardware security in any phone. Users will see everything from the completely revamped camera system to speech recognition and much more.
