Leica’s Leitz Phone 1 smartphone with a 1-inch image sensor. With a Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 888 CPU and a 1-inch image sensor with 20.2 megapixels, it’s a strong 5G mobile platform. The Leitz Phone 1’s sensor size allows it to capture more light and generate stunning image quality that is unrivaled in the smartphone industry.
Leica introduced Leitz Phone 1 in the Japanese market. The Leitz-Phone 1 allows you to capture and share intimate experiences from your daily life in Leica-quality photos. Named after Leica’s founder and a tribute to Ernst Leitz (II), who invented modern 35mm photography in 1924 and changed the world of photography. The world-famous Leica camera experience is at the heart of the Leitz Phone 1, allowing you to focus exclusively on adapting the essentials of photography to everyday life.
It marks a new turning point in Leica’s history, confirming our reputation for technical innovation of the greatest caliber. The Leitz Phone 1 was created by the Leica design studio in Germany and is made of the best quality materials as indicated by the Leica brand. Its anodized silver aluminum case is tastefully coupled with matt-black Gorilla-glass.
The integrated Leica lens technology of the Leitz Phone 1 offers outstanding photographs in RAW and JPEG formats that impress with excellent quality and true-to-life detail, especially in large-format prints, thanks to a fast f/1.9 lens and up to 6-fold digital zoom. The full-frame equivalent of a 19mm focal length offers an incredibly broad field of view for immersive composition and breathtaking sights.
Leica engineers created the “Leitz Looks” mode, which produces exceptionally clear black-and-white photographs with a typical Leica camera look-and-feel, based on the visual language of the flagship Leica M Monochrom. With future firmware updates, even more, Leitz Looks will be available.
The greatest photographs from the Leica Fotografie International Gallery – the selected platform for Leica photographers worldwide – are constantly displayed by a pre-installed “LFI.Widget.” The categories that are displayed, as well as the frequency with which new photographs are refreshed, can all be customized according to personal preference and interest.
‘Leica has a long-established tradition that is and always has been characterized by the constant pursuit of technical innovation. We welcome smartphones because they make a very valuable contribution to the world of photography. For Leica, the launch of our own smartphone is the next and logical step on the path to the technologies of the future. Personally, it fills me with pride when I see that Leica Camera AG has once again set a significant milestone in both the history of the company and smartphone photography with the Leitz Phone 1’ said Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Majority Shareholder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
Due to space constraints, a typical smartphone camera uses a tiny sensor. The Leitz Phone 1, on the other hand, has a huge 1-inch sensor, similar to those found in digital cameras, which provides rich detail and high-definition, clear image clarity. The Zmicron F1.9/19 ASPH., a seven-component lens equipped with a bright, high-quality aspherical lens that makes full use of Leica’s optical technology, has also been fitted to retain thinness that does not hinder convenience as a smartphone as the sensor grows and the lens grows. It also supports Leica’s unique image processing, as well as a “Leitz Looks” option that lets you appreciate Leica’s monochrome photographs in all their richness and beauty.
The Leitz Phone 1 is produced exclusively for the Japanese market in collaboration with Sharp Corporation and is available from SoftBank, Japan’s leading distributor of information and communications technology.
